Setup Guide

Set up your GlucoLamp

From unboxing to your first live glucose reading. Follow the steps below.

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • GlucoLamp + USB-C cable
  • USB power adapter (5V / 500 mA minimum)
  • Phone or laptop with WiFi
  • Your home WiFi name & password
  • Active CGM sensor session
  • CGM app credentials (see Step 5)
Hardware Setup: Steps 1–4

Get GlucoLamp powered up and online

Step 1

Unbox & Plug In

Remove GlucoLamp from its packaging and connect the included USB-C cable. Plug into any USB wall adapter (a standard phone charger works). Avoid laptop USB ports; they may not supply enough power.

The lamp turns on and plays a rainbow animation during boot.

GlucoLamp plugged in, rainbow boot animation playing
Step 2

Join the GlucoLamp WiFi Hotspot

Once booted, GlucoLamp creates its own WiFi network. On your phone or laptop, open WiFi Settings and connect to:

GlucoLamp-XXXX

The password is printed on the label on the bottom of the lamp.

💡 On Android you may see “No internet connection”. Tap Stay Connected. This is normal.
Phone WiFi settings: GlucoLamp-XXXX network visible
Step 3

Open the Setup Page

A setup page should open automatically in your browser after connecting to the hotspot.

If nothing appears after 10 seconds, open your browser and type directly into the address bar:

192.168.4.1

GlucoLamp configuration portal open in browser
Step 4

Enter Your Home WiFi

In the portal, tap Scan Network, select your network (SSID), enter your password, and follow the on-screen instructions.

⚠️ GlucoLamp supports 2.4 GHz WiFi only. Most routers broadcast both 2.4 & 5 GHz, so make sure you pick the 2.4 GHz network.
Config portal: WiFi SSID and password fields
Connect Your CGM: Step 5

Link your glucose monitor

Choose your CGM type below to see the exact steps for your device.

You will need for Dexcom:

  • Dexcom app with an active sensor session (live reading visible in the app)
  • Dexcom Share enabled with at least one follower added
  • Your Dexcom account username & password
Step 5a

Enable Share & Add a Follower

In the Dexcom app: tap ☰ → Settings → Share. Toggle Share Glucose to ON.

Tap Invite Follower and enter any email (even your own second email). The person doesn’t need to actively follow.

⚠️ Dexcom only streams data to third-party apps when at least one follower is added. This is a Dexcom requirement.
Dexcom → Settings → Share: toggled ON, follower added
Step 5b

Enter Credentials & Select Region

In the GlucoLamp portal, select Dexcom. Enter your username and password, then choose your region:

🇺🇸 United States: if your account was created in the US
🌍 International: UK, Europe, Australia, Canada, everywhere else

⚠️ Wrong region is the #1 cause of login failure. When in doubt, try International first.
Config portal: Dexcom credentials + region filled in

You will need for Freestyle Libre:

  • LibreLink app on the sensor wearer’s phone, actively scanning a sensor
  • LibreLinkUp app installed with a follower account (free on App Store / Google Play)
  • Your LibreLinkUp follower account email & password
Step 5a

Invite a LibreLinkUp Connection

On the sensor wearer’s phone: LibreLink → ☰ → Connected Apps → LibreLinkUp → + Add Connection. Enter the email of your LibreLinkUp follower account.

Accept the invite inside LibreLinkUp. The status in LibreLink must change from Pending to Active.

LibreLink → LibreLinkUp connection showing Active
Step 5b

Enter LibreLinkUp Credentials

In the GlucoLamp portal, select LibreLink Up. Enter the email & password of your LibreLinkUp follower account.

⚠️ Use your LibreLinkUp (follower) account, not your LibreLink sensor account. They are separate.

If you follow more than one patient, select the correct person from the dropdown.

Config portal: LibreLinkUp credentials entered

You will need for Nightscout:

  • Your Nightscout URL (e.g. https://mysite.fly.dev)
  • Your API Secret (the API_SECRET value in your hosting environment variables)
  • Nightscout must be accessible from the internet (not just localhost)
Step 5a

Find Your URL & API Secret

Your Nightscout URL is the address you use to open your glucose dashboard:

https://yourname.fly.dev
https://yourapp.up.railway.app

Find your API Secret in your hosting platform’s environment variables under the key API_SECRET.

⚠️ The API Secret is case-sensitive. One wrong character blocks the connection.
Hosting platform: environment variables showing API_SECRET
Step 5b

Enter URL, Test & Save

In the portal, select Nightscout. Paste your full URL (include https://, no trailing slash) and API Secret.

Tap Test Connection. Your latest reading should appear. If it fails, check the URL and secret for typos.

Config portal: Nightscout test connection success
Finishing Up: Steps 6–7

Save your settings and watch it glow

Step 6

Save & Reconnect

Tap Save at the bottom of the portal. GlucoLamp will verify your credentials and, if everything is correct, display a success message.

GlucoLamp will immediately start glowing at your real-time glucose level.

Config portal: Save button, device rebooting
Step 7

Personalise Your Colours

Once the lamp is running, reconnect to the portal from your home WiFi to customise colour thresholds, brightness, and night mode.

The defaults are a great starting point. Adjust them to match your family’s needs.

Config portal: colour range customisation screen

You’re all set!

GlucoLamp is glowing in real time. Here’s what each colour means by default:

Customise these anytime from the config portal.

Troubleshooting

Something not working?

Find your issue below. Most problems are solved in under a minute.

Power & Hardware

The lamp won’t turn on
  1. Try a different USB-C cable; some cables are charge-only
  2. Use a wall adapter instead of a computer USB port (5V / 500 mA minimum)
  3. Try a different power adapter

If nothing works, contact support.

Lamp shows solid white and nothing changes

Solid white means a boot error or failed WiFi connection. Unplug and replug. If it persists, factory reset (see below) and set up again.

WiFi Setup

Can’t find GlucoLamp-XXXX in WiFi list

The hotspot appears a few seconds after powering on the lamp. Unplug and replug, wait 30 seconds then check your WiFi list again.

Config page at 192.168.4.1 won’t open

Confirm you’re connected to GlucoLamp-XXXX (not your home WiFi). On Android, tap Stay Connected when prompted. Type 192.168.4.1 directly into the address bar. Don’t search for it.

Lamp won’t connect to home WiFi after saving
  • Password: WiFi passwords are case-sensitive.
  • 2.4 GHz only: GlucoLamp doesn’t support 5 GHz. Use your router settings to identify the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Distance: Keep the lamp close to the router during first setup.

Glucose Data

Connected to WiFi but no glucose colour showing

First confirm your CGM app shows a live reading. Then:

  • Wait up to 10 minutes; the first sync takes a moment
  • Reconnect to the hotspot (10-sec reset) and re-check your credentials
  • Check your router’s device list to confirm GlucoLamp has internet access
Lamp was working but stopped updating
  • Sensor expired. Start a new session in your CGM app
  • CGM account password changed. Update credentials via the config portal
  • Brief internet outage. The lamp reconnects automatically

Dexcom

Dexcom: Login failed or authentication error
  1. Verify your credentials at dexcom.com
  2. If you use Sign in with Google / Apple, set a standalone Dexcom password at dexcom.com first
  3. Try the other region (US vs International)
Dexcom: Login works but no data appears

In the Dexcom app confirm: (1) Share is ON, and (2) at least one follower is added. Also check you have an active sensor session.

Freestyle Libre

Libre: Login failed

Ensure you’re using your LibreLinkUp follower account credentials, not your LibreLink sensor account. Verify you can log in to the LibreLinkUp app with those details.

Libre: “No patients found” after login

The connection isn’t active yet. In LibreLink → Connected Apps → LibreLinkUp, status must show Active (not Pending). Accept any pending invitation in the LibreLinkUp app.

Nightscout

Nightscout: Cannot connect

Open your Nightscout URL in a browser. If it doesn’t load, the server is down. Free-tier hosts (Render, Railway) may sleep, so just open the URL to wake it. URL must start with https:// and have no trailing slash.

Nightscout: 401 Unauthorized

The API Secret is wrong. Re-copy it exactly from your environment variables; it’s case-sensitive. For token auth, append ?token=YOUR_TOKEN to the URL and leave the API Secret blank.

Factory Reset

How to factory reset GlucoLamp
⚠️ Factory reset erases all settings (WiFi, CGM credentials, and preferences). You will need to set up again from scratch.
  1. Find the small recessed reset button on the bottom of the lamp
  2. Hold it for 10 seconds with a pin or paperclip
  3. Release when the lamp flashes red three times
